Zhao Qin

Zhao Qin’s apartment is Chinese bohemia. The walls are bright with cartoon-like paintings, artists are sprawled about eating peanuts and smoking cigarettes, and his young daughter parades her own paintings around the room.

It is from here that Zhao wages his artistic campaign against what he calls ‘the American capitalist occupation of China.’ He’s watched McDonald’s and Starbucks erupt across his country like a vile rash and uses art to strike back.

‘One must preserve one’s identity and not be obscured by the American cultural giant,’ says Zhao.
